Daugherty Business Solutions was tasked with rebuilding the entire suite of business applications for a company. Their existing system had become too old and could no long keep up with the needs of the company. I was given two weeks to take in all information and current project processes and ask to define a solution for the current section they were working on but at the same time create reusable patterns that could be carried across the entire suite of applications that were going to be built.
The sprint was based in the finance department and centered around matching planned expenditures with actual billings from vendors. Physical mail was received by the department, scanned into the system and then matched up with entries in the database. The software they were using was equivalent to a full screen excel chart with no function bar. Top to bottom, left to right… numbers.

With only two weeks I and a UX researcher were able to distill a complicated process into easy to follow steps. We were able to talk to users and see what their environment looked like and what their real paint points during the workday were. The project lead was very happy with the results that were delivered in such a short time.
